Twice daily game drives depart with a skilled tracker and ranger to take guests on a journey into the African wilderness. Kapama is Big Five country, but there are many other fascinating creatures and every day is different in this mysterious place. Nyala Antelope and Vervet Monkeys are often seen at the lodge.
On a morning safari, expect a 5 or 5.30am wake up call before everyone gathers for a warming cup of tea or coffee and a snack before setting off. The big cats could still be up after a night of hunting or other large game including Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo may be seen. Along the way, enjoy sightings of creatures beginning to stir and colourful birds taking flight - the African bush is a treasure house of interesting flora and fauna. Refreshments are served on-board the Landrover before the drive back to the lodge.
For afternoon game drives, visitors gather at 3.30pm for a sumptuous high tea before departure. Sundowners can be enjoyed en-route at a view site where guests can stretch their legs and watch the sun setting. Once everyone is back in the vehicle, the tracker will set up the spotlight for viewing of nocturnal animals. The game drive returns to the lodge in time for guests to freshen up before dinner.
Enjoy the thrilling closeness of the bush on a guided walk after breakfast. The ranger gives tremendous insight into the wonders of the plant kingdom, nature's medicine chest, and shows guests how to identify animals from their tracks and dung. Large game can be observed from a safe distance.
Ahh....up, up and away into the wild blue yonder! Savour the fresh air and amazing sensation of gliding over the African bushveld and magnificent scenery. These giant brightly coloured balloons depart at first light, riding the wind and skimming tree tops while guests spot game below.
The pilot follows the prevailing wind direction and returns the balloon to the ground an hour later - holding on tight for the landing is recommended. A glass of champagne can be enjoyed at the end to celebrate the journey.
An advance booking and an early morning departure is required to visit 1 of 2 courses in the vicinity. Transfers are made in an air-conditioned mini safari vehicle. Guests can enjoy a challenging round at either Hans Merenski Country Club Championship Golf Course in Phalaborwa, or at Drakensig Golf Club in Hoedspruit.
In this part of the world wildlife roam the fairways and make golfing here a unique experience. The return transfer arrives back at Kapama in time for the evening game drive.
